DERWENT Table Tennis Club have a difficult weekend ahead in their quest to join the country's elite in the premier division of the British League.
The first team currently leads division one north by one point with a game in hand over second-placed Ormesby.
In the matches to be played at Grantham Leisure Centre, the Riccall-based team are scheduled to face Dewsbury and Grantham on Saturday. Sunday morning will see them face Norwich before the potential championship-decider against Ormesby in the afternoon. Victories in their first three matches will see Derwent crowned champions but any slip-ups will give Ormesby a chance of the title.
In a blow to Derwent's hopes, they will be without top player Dave Godbold who is unavailable.
The second team also have a tough run in against Humpty's Club, Oakbank Potteries and Uxbridge and will be looking to consolidate their fourth position in division two north.
Derwent's squad for the weekend is expected to be Andrew Horsfield, Richard Smith, Simon Noutch, Steve Horsfield, Trevor Williams, Richard Moss, Mick Wilcockson and Chris Nicholls.
