THE Students won the battle of the University clubs with a 5-4 win over the Staff in ladies division one of the York Badminton League.
Jo Ladds and Ros Ellis led the way for the victors with three wins for 106-71, including a 17-15, 15-2 over Li Zhang and Mamiko Morita who took two Staff wins.
Shepherds 'A' played well to record a 9-0 home win over RI Tues/Thurs 'A' in men's one. Steve Harker and Dave Simpson topped the home averages with three straight wins for 90-42.
Ian Shore and Kev Davison were in top form as Clifton 'A' beat IT Sports 6-3. Their return of 90-44 included an 11 and 9 over Saf Gray and Paul Hardcastle, who took two wins for the visitors.
Fulfordgate scored the double over RI Tues/Thurs 'C' with a 6-3 home win in men's three.
Garry Hall and Matt Hobman played well for the home team recording three wins for a total of 103-71. Col Brooks and Mark Stenson took two Institute wins but lost 12-15 16-17 to Hall and Hobman.
University Students 'A' had two mixed one successes with an 8-1 home win over Clifton 'B' and a 5-4 away result over Drax 'A'. Nicky Roe and Russell Binns took Student maximums in both matches giving a six rubber total of 180-53. Steve Parr and Kate Jackson took two Drax 'A' wins but lost 4 and 3 to Roe and Binns.
Leaders York RI 'A' also played twice and recorded 9-0 wins over Clifton 'A' and Riverside. The best return came from Joyce Petch and Richard Pauw in the Riverside match and took all three in straight sets for a total of 90-21.
Clifton 'A' bounced back in their next match with a 6-3 away win over University Students 'B'. Richard McIntosh and Karen Broster made the Clifton difference with three wins for 109-70, while Sam Gardner and Heather Turner put in the best home display with two wins.
Drax 'B' kept up their good home record in mixed two with a 6-3 win over Easingwold. Alison Dinsdale and Dave Hearn recorded three Drax wins for a return of 102-49. Jon Day and Linda Dallinson took two Easingwold wins but lost 15-12 7-15 2-15 to Dinsdale and Hearn.
Sheriff Hutton visited Knavesmire 'A' and were good value for a 6-3 win. Jo Wade and Dave Grieve led the way with three wins, while Dave Brogden and Joy Wilson took two home wins but lost 9 and 13 to Wade and Grieve.
Tadcaster 86 reinforced their second spot in mixed four with a 5-4 home win over Drax 'E'. Sue Hardy and Adam Prescott took an excellent Drax maximum for a total of 109-89. However, Alan Ward and Jan Duxbury sealed the Tadcaster win with a 7 and 5 ninth rubber success over D Dean and S Gregory.
Selby Jubilee 'C' scored a comprehensive 9-0 home win over Pocklington 'C' in mixed six. J Barratt and C Benson put in the best Jubilee display with three straight wins for 90-28.
