A GIANT chess piece is just one of the new larger-than-life creations planned for a York park.
The creations, which also include a 12ft totem pole and large ancient Greek-style helmet, are part of a new display by sculptor Chris Wormald, of Osiris Sculptures, in Pocklington, to be unveiled in the summer.
The 8ft knight and helmet are part of a six-month commission by the sculptor, whose work can be seen in museums and attractions all over the world. The models began life sculpted in clay, before a plaster cast was used to mould the final version in glass fibre, with the knight and the totem pole finished to look like bronze, the helmet in iron.
Chris is now hosting workshops for people of all abilities, giving everyone from beginners the chance to try the art form for themselves.
He said: "It's great for me to see the reaction the pieces receive when people see them, now I want to give people the chance to feel this for themselves.
"I hope they will be inspired by installations like these so that they want to give modelling a go for themselves."
While Chris works in many different media on any scale, the workshops will concentrate on life-size portrait and clay figure modelling.
