THE amount of rubbish strewn on the verges and into the hedgerows on the approach roads to York is appalling.
It appears those in vehicles no longer take their take-away containers, bottles, plastic bags etc home to put in their bins, but fling their rubbish out of the windows.
It is impossible to understand the mentality of such litter louts. Better training of children in the home would be a start, as good habits learned early usually stick. As this seems too much to hope for - how about the council bringing back the old-fashioned lengthsman who took a pride in their length?
Council tax payers outside the city walls also deserve consideration.
