A PAIR of intrepid York residents are planning to drive 900 miles in a 1973 Beetle in two days - stopping only to climb two of the highest mountains in the country.
Simon Haddock, and his brother-in-law, Tim Wright, will make the journey from Land's End to John O'Groats, stopping to climb Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis, the highest peaks in England and Scotland.
Simon, who works in York council's early years department, said: "I've lost count of the number of people who've said that we're both mad, but we're doing it in aid of a really good cause - to raise money for Diabetes UK, a charity which looks after the interests of the 1.4 million people who are living with the disease in the UK.
"We'd be delighted to hear from anyone who might be interested in helping with the costs of the trip - whether it be helping with petrol, food supplies, or simply in-car entertainment."
The journey will take place between June 27 and 30. Anyone who would like to sponsor Simon can phone him on 01904 553374.
