YORK MP Hugh Bayley has launched a new management course aimed specifically at women in the science and information technology industries in the city.
The course leads to National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) levels 3 & 4 in management, and has been developed by Science City York and York Training Centre.
The launch, at the Government's Central Science Laboratory at Sand Hutton yesterday, took place during York's Festival Of Discovery.
The course is free to established and new women managers and has been specifically tailored to the needs of the science and technology sector.
Mr Bayley MP said: "Skills development and training is vital to the future growth and success of all businesses."
Coun Bob Scrase, City of York Council's executive member for economic development, said: "By participating in it, learners gain the opportunity to develop their management and decision-making skills, increase their confidence and job satisfaction, see how they can improve their working relationships and obtain a recognised qualification at the end of it."
For further information about this free course and dates for tailored workshops, call Shirley Hogg, of York Training Centre, on 01904 554477 or email ytc@york.gov.uk
Established managers from the science and technology sectors are also required to act as mentors for this course.
Anyone interested in becoming a mentor should contact Shirley Hogg on 01904 554477.
