SIXTH sense weighed against Malton and Norton Golf Club in the Flamborough and District Golf Alliance's Amanda Clare Trophy.
More than 100 players from the region revelled in spring-like conditions at Filey GC in the betterball medal event in which the best five cards from each club counted.
Both Malton and Norton and their Bridlington GC rivals finished tied on 348 strokes meaning that the sixth card had to be taken into consideration. When that was done Bridlington, whose duo of David Thrower and Austin Birch returned the best individual card of the day with a nett 67, were crowned winners.
Previous title-holders Scarborough North Cliff had a wretched day, finishing last of the nine clubs competing.
Final overall placings: 1 Bridlington 348 strokes; 2 Malton and Norton 348; 3 Driffield 350; 4 Flamborough Head 356; 5 Kirkbymoorside 357; 6 Scarborough South Cliff 362; 7 Whitby 364; 8 Filey 366; 9 Scarborough North Cliff 382.
WINTER cheer was the preserve of Scarborough South Cliff GC who won the Flamborough and District Winter Golf Alliance title in the final event at Flamborough Head.
Going into the fixture, Scarborough SC, held a commanding 14-point lead over second-placed Malton and Norton, with Kirkbymoorside GC a point away.
Reigning champions, Flamborough Head, seized on home advantage to win on the day with a three-card total of 196. But just behind were Scarborough SC and Kirkbymoorside on 201 enabling the former to capture the Alliance Trophy.
The best individual card of the day was a nett 63 by Flamborough's Dave Holland and Wayne Dobson on count-back from Bridlington GC's Doug Turner and David Thrower.
