Players were burning the midnight oil at the Cueball Snooker Club's monthly competition February final.
The one frame showdown between John Dowd and Matthew Tugby did not start until 11.30pm following three-and-a-half hours of matchplay earlier in the evening.
Dowd took the frame on the black ball to win the competition for the third time in the past 12 months. He clinched victory with a difficult long black.
As an experiment the 16 entrants were divided into two groups of eight, with each player having seven one-frame games, but it turned out to take too long to finish the group stages and in future the competition will revert to a knockout basis.
In group one, three players ended up tied with four frames each - Tugby, Alisdair Pratt and Tim Hart. The three were asked to clear the colours, with one potting most being the winner and Tugby came top with 11. Dowd won group two with six wins.
Steve Gregson made the highest break of the competition, with 52. Tugby had a 40-break and Hart one of 30.
The Champion of Champions competition between the winners of the monthly events in the past year will be held at the Cueball Club on Saturday, March 22. The next monthly competition will be on March 26 at the Cueball Club.
