FESTIVE goodwill is still alive in a York village after residents of one of its streets donated £2,500 to St Leonard's Hospice which was raised through their spectacular Christmas lights display.
Residents of Twin Pike Way at Wigginton have a tradition of decorating the outsides of their homes at Christmas with flashing lights, illuminated Santas, reindeer and stars.
For the past two years donations from the hundreds of visitors who have flocked to see the display have been collected for St Leonard's Hospice in Tadcaster Road, York.
This week residents presented the proceeds from the latest collection to Gini Gledhill, manager of the St Leonard's Hospice Shop at Haxby.
Among the group was one of the organisers, Kairen Alsop, who said: "We collected for St Leonard's last year and we raised £700.
"This Christmas has been amazing, with people coming from far and wide to see the display. We are delighted to have raised so much for the hospice."
Janet Morley, fundraising manager at St Leonard's Hospice, said: "Our friends in Twin Pike Way really are bright sparks, raising such a wonderful amount with their Christmas lights.
"We hear that they're already planning for next Christmas, and we know the lights will be even more spectacular."
