At Huddersfield, Michael Bruce, Graham Brooke, Barry Walker and Philip Scott were tied at 15-15 with two ends to play but lost them both and went down 19-15. Frank Turner, John Emmerson, Tex Stevens and Dudley Williams lost 22-14.

New Earswick completed their second division league campaign with an excellent 86-72 win against Hornsea.

They collected 15 points to give themselves a chance of the runners up spot depending on the result of the cancelled Metrodome v Redcar game.

Barry Johnson, Mal Beavers, Rob Domville and Dennis Ellis came back well at New Earswick after being 21-9 down with four ends to play. They won them all including a six on the penultimate end then a three to give a final score of 21-21.

It was a good weekend for York as they beat Doncaster to reach the Hebden Trophy final for the second year running.

York will play Hull in the final at North Cave on Sunday, March 30 after New Earswick missed out on the top spot in their group.

They went into their game against Selby in second place with a one point advantage. But Earswick lost 97-61 losing all 18 points at stake.

They were 11-0 down after six ends but, aided by a six on the ninth end, levellled at 11-11. They then got into a winning position, leading 18-14 with four ends to play, but lost three of them and the game.

It was disappointing end for New Earswick to what had promised to be a good season after being beaten finalists last year.

New Earswick became favourites to take the Yorkshire Over 55s League division one title after a 86-82 win against North Cave, picking up nine points.

Barry Johnson, Colin Fawcett, Pete Ransom and Joe Cooper scored a seven on the 16th end to lead 25-15 on their way to a 29-23 win at New Earswick.

Bob Edwards, Bob Howland, Mick Stannard and Ron Wood lost 18-12 though scored an important single on the last end to secure a point from the drawn home aggregate.

At North Cave, Ken Harrison, Dave Sykes, Dave Pearson and Ray Bowman were 23-9 ahead with four ends to play but dropped ten shots over the next three ends but still won 26-19. Barry Harrison, Graheme Watson, Bryan Arundale and Brian Hardcastle dropped a two and a three on the last two ends in a 22-19 defeat.

A convincing points win against bottom-placed Redcar in their last game should secure the title for New Earswick.
