BECAUSE our local branch of the Royal British Legion may be disbanded after more than 80 years, I understand that an approach is to be made to Tadcaster Town Council for possible financial help in order to continue the annual Remembrance Sunday parade at Tadcaster (February 20).
There is not much hope of this.
I recently had an idea (a sensible one, I would have thought) in connection with all the names on our town's war memorial. My suggestion, which had nothing to do with asking for cash from the town council, was turned down because it "did not meet the criteria". This rebuff was done in an off-handed and patronising manner, after much unnecessary delay.
I fear those valiant efforts now being made to try to continue the Tadcaster Remembrance Sunday Parade are doomed to failure.
Mrs Ida M Goodrick,
Woodlands Avenue,
Tadcaster.
