THREE cheers for City of York Council's proposed new footbridge across the Ouse linking North Street and Coney Street (March 3).
One of the first things that struck me when I arrived in York was that a pedestrian bridge was needed between Ouse Bridge and Lendal Bridge to provide a free flow of people to link with businesses on the south bank.
The present bridges are overcrowded with pedestrians, and a separate pedestrian bridge would provide a pleasant change that should also encourage more development on the south bank of the Ouse.
Hopefully the new bridge will be as big a feature of York as the footbridge across the Liffey is of Dublin.
