THE two heroes who saved a coach-load of fellow sixth-formers during a clifftop drama have been given a £40 reward by an admiring Evening Press reader.
We reported exclusively last week how Jonny Goddard and Pete Barnsley had prevented a coach carrying them and up to 17 other Fulford School students from rolling down a 30ft cliff near Whitby.
The bus had started moving towards the cliff edge while the driver was underneath trying to fix the brakes. Jonny managed to apply the footbrake just in time after his friend Pete had shouted at him to press the middle pedal.
Now a reader has written anonymously to editor Liz Page to say: "Please would you be kind enough to give the enclosed money to the two young men who between them saved their bus from possible disaster. Thank you so much from a pensioner."
She enclosed four £10 notes, which the paper has now passed on to the two sixth-formers.
Pete asked the paper to pass on their thanks to the pensioner through this article. "We're very grateful," he said.
