YORK City Knights' reward for their first ever victory will be a tasty home tie against Doncaster Dragons in the fourth round of the Powergen Challenge Cup.
The Knights beat Skirlaugh 20-8 in only their second game since rising from the ashes of the defunct York Wasps, and while the team may be taking their first tentative steps along the professional rugby league path, they will at least get an idea what to expect from the Dragons when they meet on February 8/9.
The two sides are set to first clash in the Arriva Trains National League Cup East Group this weekend, giving the Knights the perfect build up to the tie.
Player-coach Paul Broadbent told the Evening Press: "I think the club were hoping to get one of the big teams at home for the financial reward, but this is an opportunity, if we can play to our potential to progress.
"The fact we will play them this weekend will give us a good chance to have a good look at what they have.
"We've got the playing staff to progress, but it is all about how we can perform on the day.
"The squad was disappointed with the way we played on Sunday, especially after doing so well the week before, but it is about being consistent."
Despite Broadbent himself - the one-time Challenge Cup winner is working to a March return to action after a shoulder operation - the Knights have no serious injury worries, with only the odd knock for the physiotherapy staff to deal with.
Meanwhile, the Knights Supporters' Club, together with Glenn Coaches, will be running a coach to Doncaster on Sunday.
The probable pickup points for Doncaster, depending on numbers, will be Haxby (outside Memorial Hall), Huntington Stadium, New Lane, Dodsworth Avenue, Clarence Street, Blossom Street, Tadcaster Road, Thanet Road and Gale Lane.
Times and cost subject to numbers, but if full, then £5 each, while the likely start time from Haxby will be 11.45am. Thursday evening is the deadline for booking with Leanne at the club office on 01904 656105.
The Powergen Challenge Cup fourth round draw: Wigan v Halton Simms Cross, Sheffield v Keighley, Warrington v Bradford, Barrow v Salford, Wakefield v Castleford, London v Oldham, York Knights v Doncaster, Hunslet v Huddersfield, Chorley v Swinton, UTC v St Helens, Wath Brow v Batley, Featherstone v Leigh, Hull v Halifax, Rochdale v Hull KR, Widnes v ewsbury, Leeds v Whitehaven.
Ties to be played on the weekend of February 8 and 9.
