GOALS flowed as City of York Hockey Club ran riot against Warrington.
The under-strength Lancashire team were no match for York who cantered to an 8-0 Northern League premier division victory.
Warrington packed their defence from the start in a damage limitation exercise and it took York some time to settle down to play some good hockey.
When they did get their act together it was clear that York were able to open up Warrington almost at will.
Glyn Humphrey opened the scoring, Mark Little added the second and Chris Dutton made it 3-0 before half-time.
Further goals by Humphrey, Little, Dutton and a couple from Jimmy Gilbert emphasised the gulf in class.
Warrington could offer no resistance and City 'keeper James Riley's only touches of the ball were from back passes or tidying up long hits upfield.
It will be a different story next week through as York play third-placed Durham University on Saturday and Sheffield University Bankers, who are second, the following day.
There were also goals galore as City of York III thumped Scarborough 7-1 in Yorkshire League division three with goals by Jason Bemrose (3), Matt Fletcher, Alex Burton, Brian Nalen and an Eric Folliott flick from a short corner.
In another North Yorkshire derby, City of York IV lost 2-1 at Old Malton I in division five.
It was a big disappointment for the free-scoring York team who had scored five goals in each of their last three games.
Malton went ahead with a shot past the unsighted Matthew Merrick, but York equalised when Ed Shouksmith fired home after Nathan Dale's shot hit an upright. Malton's winner came with 15 minutes to go.
City of York V let slip a 2-1 lead against Boston Spa III in division seven and went down 3-2. James Still and Wayne Stevens were on target for York, whose Mark Smith had an excellent game in midfield while John Steele did well at the back.
City of York VI recorded a resounding 5-0 victory at Bradford III. After a poor opening 20-minute period, York cut loose with goals from skipper Peter Feasby, Neil Reader (2), Tom Sorby, Tim Downie and Alan Crompton.
Hull University III snatched the only goal of the game against City of York VII in division eight. Making their debuts in the York side were Tom Greenwood at centre defence, centre forward Joshua Bolton and right winger Stuart Burke.
Richard Tanner-Smith almost snatched a spectacular equaliser with a reverse stick flick which was only just palmed to safety.
York St John's put City of York VIII to the sword when winning 8-2 in division ten.
Andy Dent and an own goal accounted for the club side's tally, while the students' goals were shared between Ben Foster (3), Tom Carter (3), Martyn French (2) and Tim Murgatroyd.
- City of York II's game with Bradford I was postponed as six York players were included in the Under-18 National Indoor finals at Kidderminster.
