FORMER Anglican Father Gabriel Everitt is preparing to take on a new role at one of the country's top Roman Catholic colleges.
He will be taking over as headmaster at Ampleforth College at the end of the year when outgoing head Father Leo Chamberlain moves to become master of St Benet's Hall, Oxford.
Fr Gabriel was brought up as an Anglican, and prepared for the priesthood in the Anglican Church at St Stephen's House, gaining a First in Theology.
After ordination in 1987, he served the parish of St Aidan and St Columba, in Hartlepool.
In 1989, he was received into the Roman Catholic Church, and joined the Ampleforth Community a year later.
He was ordained in 1994 and steps down as housemaster in July before he takes up his new post as headmaster in January next year.
