FORMER Evening Press editor Richard Wooldridge has been given a top business role for an American newspaper.
The New York Times Company has announced Mr Wooldridge, 60, will become business editor of the International Herald Tribune.
He served as the editor of the Evening Press from 1982 until 1992, and became managing director of York & County Press from 1986 until 1992.
He has been president of the International Herald Tribune since 1998.
He said: "The International Herald Tribune is one of the world's great newspaper institutions and it is a privilege to be asked to take over the business leadership at such an exciting time."
Janet Robinson, senior vice-president of newspaper operations at the company, said: "Given his extensive experience, first as a journalist and then as an executive, Richard is ideally suited to provide the business leadership in the years ahead."
