KEITH Daggett (Letters, January 16) rightly draws attention to the danger that York City Library's collection of music scores may be banished in favour of a caf - which would no doubt earn the council a better financial return.
He omits to mention that already 90 per cent of the music reference materials: bibliographies, repertory guides, thematic indexes, indexes to anthologies - all the specialist things - have disappeared from view.
This is inconvenient enough if you know precisely which one you need to consult: if you are uncertain, it is incapacitating. This downgrading of the music department was predictable from the moment the post of music librarian was abolished a few years ago.
