YORK schoolboy David Harry died of heart problems, an inquest heard.
The 15-year-old Joseph Rowntree School pupil was found dead in bed by his mother, Tracy Way, at their home in Lime Tree Avenue, New Earswick, on October 24, last year.
The pathologist's report revealed he had suffered a viral infection which caused an inflammation of the heart muscle. This in turn led to "rapid acute heart failure".
York coroner Donald Coverdale said David had had no significant medical history.
He told the inquest: "This is a particularly sad case of a death by natural causes.
"It's unusual that an apparently healthy boy of 15 years old should have this condition. I'm well aware that this has been a very sad occasion for Mr Harry's family."
Mr Coverdale recorded a verdict of death by natural causes.
Tracy Way, who has three other children, has been raising money for Cardiac Risk in the Young since David's death.
"We're just relieved it's all over," she told the Evening Press.
"Thank God this condition is not hereditary.
"There's nothing the doctors could have done for David.
"We've got to try and get on with things."
