YORK-BASED side Nestl Rowntree have edged closer to an history-making Sunday best.
The York John Smith's Sunday League first division side produced a scintillating display to storm into the semi-finals of the North Riding Sunday Senior Cup - a trophy never before captured by a York club.
To reach the last four Trees, co-managed by Jim Collis and John Dixon, travelled north to Acklam where they ousted holders Castle Construction in a stirring 6-2 triumph.
The quarter-final collision was effectively over by half-time at which point the free-scoring Nestl ranks led 5-1.
Their marksmen in the northern conquest were Steve Ward with four goals and Matty Wain with the other two.
As yet they do not know the identity of their semi-final opponents as they seek to make history.
Meanwhile, a York and District FA representative squad has been named for a friendly encounter with Huddersfield's Lepton Highlanders later this month.
The match, on January 28 at Pocklington, kick-off 7.30pm, will serve as a warm-up for the York squad's eagerly anticipated crunch clash with their Scarborough counterparts next month.
York FA squad: Paul Simpson (Crayke); Tom Brownlow (Elvington Harriers); Ben Pears (Nestle Rowntree); Paul Fawcett (Huntington); Ian Burgess (Dunnington); Dave Chandler, Neil Wilford, Rob Gibson, Neil Durkin (all Pocklington); Tom Matthews, Tom Coates (both Wigginton Grasshoppers); John Lake (Dringhouses); Marcus Lee, Nathan Milner, Simon Collins (all Malton Bacon Factory); Mark Scoreby (Haxby Town).
Victory was sweet for Northern Wall after they beat close rivals British Sugar 3-1 to clinch the Football Mundial Six-a-Side Monday League premier division title.
Goals from manager Jeff Berman (2) and former York City legend Andy McMillan saw Wall take the points from the must-win clash to guarantee them the silverware.
And the new champions haven't ruled out doing the double, although they must repeat their win over British Sugar and then beat 1882 Evening Press, who defeated them 2-0 earlier in the competition, to stand a chance of making it through to the finals night at the all-weather surface at Huntington School.
