STAFF at City of York Council feel more motivated and better informed about their work, but less than half are satisfied with their pay, says a recent survey.
The second annual survey of the council's 3,500 employees found that workers felt more rewarded, motivated and informed by their managers.
Ten per cent of staff said they were being bullied or harassed - 12 per cent less than in the previous year's survey.
But job satisfaction with pay fell from 53 per cent to 45 per cent, possibly reflecting the council workers' strike last summer.
David Atkinson, the council's chief executive, said: "The staff survey provides us with evidence of how well we are managing one of our biggest assets - our people - and it shows the real difference our attitudes can make to how the council performs.
"I am especially pleased that staff feel they are being better managed this year because it is a vital indicator of how well placed we are to improve as a council and improve the services we provide for the people of York."
The independent study was carried out by questionnaire in September and October last year and 1,365 (38 per cent) of council employees responded.
The results are now to be analysed with feedback and action planned after the initial findings are presented to councillors on Friday.
