A MOTORIST whose car spun out of control and smashed into a tree on a country road near York has died in hospital.
Simon Lowery, 20, of Denison Road, Pocklington, died in Leeds General Infirmary today, five days after the accident in Elvington Lane, between York and Elvington.
Mr Lowery had been travelling from York towards Elvington when his car went out of control at a bend in the road, ending up going on to the wrong side of the carriageway and smashing into trees.
Meanwhile, a woman who was killed when two cars collided on the A169 near Malton has been named as Sharon Dowson, 40, of Farm Close, Whitby. The accident happened at about 11.50am on Sunday at Howe Bridge, near Marishes, between Malton and Pickering, and involved a silver Peugeot 206 and a blue Vauxhall Cavalier.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to call the Eastern Area Traffic Line on 01723 509555.
