WITH the first team without a game the club flag was flown by City of York II who rose to the occasion magnificently with a long-awaited 2-1 win over Sheffield University Bankers II.
There were scrambles in front of goal for both teams but, with Dave King controlling midfield and young players Ollie Coultie and Richard Jenkin lively in attack, City were gave as good as they got.
Almost on the stroke of half-time Bankers went ahead when a ball from a short corner was flicked over the diving Ashley Watson.
In the second half, City of York pressed even harder and were rewarded when Coultie scrambled home the equaliser.
City went all out for the winner and a flash of brilliance secured it.
Jenkin took the ball down the right before crossing to John Raper who slammed it home.
The last few minutes were a scrappy affair as Bankers pressed hard, but City dug deep and held on for three very valuable points.
City of York III had one of those best-forgotten days when they lost 2-1 at Airedale.
Despite being down to ten men they dominated in everything except goalscoring.
Airedale opened the scoring when a lone breakaway led to a one-on-one executed by Martyn Parrott.
Just before half-time, however, a neat series of passes between Matthew Fletcher and Simon Williams ended when Fletcher rounded the 'keeper and slipped it to Williams to tap in.
A lifted ball was put into City's circle soon after, the umpire ruling it legal for Airedale's second.
City of York IV beat visiting Sheffield University Bankers VII 5-1 after going behind.
But after half-time York tightened the screw. Ed Shouksmith levelled and it was all one-way.
A penalty flick from Sam Blackburn put City ahead, Nathan Dales added a third, Alex Cockram a fourth and Dales rubbed it in with City's fifth. It was the third game in succession that City IV had scored five goals.
No such luck for City of York V, 2-1 losers at Sheffield University Bankers VIII.
City were well and truly over-run in the first half, trailing within three minutes. John Steele played well to bolster City's defence, but could do nothing to prevent Bankers adding a second before half-time.
In the second half, the visitors pressed well with Mark Smith having an excellent game in midfield and Matt Boyle prominent in attack.
They halved the arrears through Wayne Stephens, but try as they might, they could not create an equaliser.
City of York VI had to wait 45 minutes before their game against Leeds IV, after an accident on the A64 held up the visitors.
The game was evenly balanced throughout the first half. Leeds took the lead but City countered through Nick Longster from the penalty spot. Just on half-time Leeds regained the lead.
In the second half, City of York conceded two quick goals and were playing catch-up.
They managed a second from Alan Crompton on the counter-attack and applied much pressure but the task was too great.
City of York VII drew 1-1 at home to Lincoln III.
Both teams had equal chances to score, but Alastair Blacklee and Mark Pryce kept Lincoln at bay.
After the break Simon Taylor got on the end of a Tim Jolly free-hit and scored, but a late defensive lapse enabled Lincoln to level.
City of York VII were away to Ben Rhydding VII and took the lead in the first half with a goal from Bernard Chase. But despite a fine goalkeeping performance by Nathan Sorby, the host hit four rapid strikes.
