York could be the home of the next Tim Henman or Annabel Croft, thanks to new mini tennis coaching at Oaklands Sport Centre.
Children aged between five and ten are able to receive coaching in the junior version of the game at the Acomb centre since it was accredited as a mini tennis centre by the Lawn Tennis Association. Youngsters will benefit from the opportunity to play mini tennis with special balls and racquets on smaller courts, making it safer, slower and less intimidating than the adult game. There are two levels of mini tennis, allowing young people to be gradually introduced to the full game.
Community leisure officer Mark Wilson said: "It is a great way of introducing children to tennis, and can really help improve their co-ordination and confidence."
Coaching is on Saturdays between 2pm and 4pm. To book, phone 01904 782841.
