THE latest business failures in Yorkshire show a surprise dramatic fall, according to new figures published by professional services firm Deloitte & Touche.
The total number of receiverships and administration appointments in Yorkshire and Humberside fell in November to 10, a 41 per cent drop on the previous month's total of 17. This latest total is in line with the August figure of nine.
Nationally, there was also some good news with a 29 per cent drop, with the figure for the month spiralling down to 115 from 163.
The figures defy gloomy pronouncements from economic pundits, but Angus Martin, reorganisation services partner in the Leeds office of Deloitte & Touche, warned against any early euphoria.
"All the economic data available indicates that sectors which have so far escaped unscathed could come in for a rough ride this year," he said.
"I have no wish to be a prophet of doom, but I don't think we should read too much into these figures which could amount to a misleading blip as there are clearly some tough times ahead."
