YOUNG people in a York village are being given the chance to come up with ideas for a scheme to beat the boredom and keep them out of mischief.
Parish councillors at Bishopthorpe have teamed up with community constable PC Dave White to offer the youth of the village the opportunity to shape a facility for themselves.
The move follows a recent spate of petty vandalism in the village, which the police have blamed on boredom among some young people.
"It could be anything from a shelter or a youth club to a skatepark or a basketball facility," said PC White.
"We want the young people to get involved in deciding what is needed so they will use the facility and have a sense of ownership."
An event was held at the village hall on Saturday to kick-start the search for ideas. Members of York police's cycle squad came along to get young people interested in putting forward their views.
