IT took York RI until the second half to finally overcome a spirited Halifax Vandals side 23-3.
The result sees RI register their third straight win in Yorkshire Three, but they did not have everything their own way in the first half as Vandals big pack kept driving the home side back.
However, the Railway defence stood firm and two penalties by Stewart Watson on the half hour put them in front.
A Fisher penalty brought the visitors back into the game before RI finally found the gaps to exploit.
From a line out on the half way line, the ball was eventually shipped to winger Howard Reed, who rounded the full-back to score.
Although 11-3 ahead at the break, RI were not at their best and it took a mistake by Vandals to come to their aid.
A drop pass in the centre saw full-back Graham Allott pounce and sprint through to the posts, Watson adding the conversion.
RI finally put the game beyond doubt when from a set-piece at a line out, prop Paul Reed scored with a clear run to the line.
