THE farm income figure of £17,000 (January 13) is an average and is less than the firemen are receiving for many fewer hours' work.
The farmer has to live on that income and reinvest in his farm.
Even the average is not sufficient to do this, so many farms are deteriorating and morale is at an all time low.
Farming is like starting and stopping an oil tanker at sea: it takes a long time and the brakes have been on now for several years.
