York City Knights chairman Roger Dixon has hailed bus company First York after they agreed to run a free pilot scheme to transport local fans to Huntington Stadium for tomorrow's opener against Hull KR.
First York will be running 48-seater buses from and to five pick-up points, and if successful the scheme will continue throughout the season.
Dixon said: "We are delighted First York have agreed to pilot this scheme in response to a much-voiced plea from supporters.
"We can also confirm that the buses to the match will be provided free of charge in honour of the Knights' first home game."
Peter Edwards, of First York, said: "Everyone is keen to see a vibrant and viable professional rugby league team in York.
"We wish the Knights every success for their first match and for the season."
As for providing buses for future matches, Edwards added: "It depends on how many people wish to use the service but we would certainly look to make this a regular feature if the demand is there."
Pick-up points are:
- Corner House Public House on Burton Stone Lane, York - pick-up time 2.15pm.
- Opposite the parade of shops on Lowther Street, York - pick-up time 2.15pm.
- Stonebow House (Job Centre side), York - pick-up time 2.15pm.
- Outside Thanet Road Baths, Acomb - pick-up time 2pm.
- Outside the Memorial Hall, Haxby - pick-up time 2.15pm.
The buses will be identified by York City Knights signs in the front and back windows.
Buses will also take fans back to these pick-up points after the match.
