YORK City's oldest surviving player called today for giant clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United to bail out the struggling Minstermen.
Jack Pinder, 90, declared: "You would think Arsenal and Chelsea and Manchester United could give them £1 million.
"They wouldn't notice it, would they? They rely on these clubs for the talent to play for them."
He felt the only problem might be that other struggling clubs might also go to the big clubs looking for help. The former fullback, who lives in Heworth, said he began playing for York before they even moved to Bootham Crescent in the 1920s, and finished his career there in 1948.
He recalled how he once played in front of 29,000 fans in a cup game at Bootham Crescent against West Bromwich Albion.
Now he was very worried about City's future.
"I am York right through. I feel very upset about it. It's a terrible thing," he said.
"How are they going to get out of it? I don't know what is going to happen."
