AT the tender age of six Charlie Elliott is proving a big hit at York Cricket Club nets.
The youngster has astounded coaches at the nets with his ability with both bat and ball during the sessions which have attracted scores of youngsters to the nets at Canon Lee School.
The Under-11s session, which Charlie attends, has attracted 26 youngsters, with 30 at the later session for U-13s, said Bob Paddison, who coaches the youngsters alongside Pete Hepworth, Chris Houseman, Ernest Taylor and Steve Elliott.
Enthused Paddison: "Charlie's been doing ever so well and he is one of several really good youngsters who are showing a lot of promise.
"It's encouraging to see so many youngsters attending the sessions."
Paddison explained that for the coming summer season the York club are to run two U13s sides with another two at U11s and a new U9s team, the latter playing friendlies. Would-be opposition for the U9s should contact Paddison tel 01977 683288 or Houseman on 610268.
Meanwhile, there is to be a level one cricket coaching course at Huntington School on Monday.
The course will be run by top-rated cricket coach Ian Dews, the former York CC captain.
Places are still available for the course and would-be entrants can contact Dews tel York 671596 or turn up on the night from 6.15pm to 6.30pm.
