A YORK artist is donating the window he designed to commemorate the September 11 terrorist attacks to firefighters in Norway.
Fire officers from Bergen travelled to York to pick up the stained glass window that will take pride of place in their new fire station.
Paul Calvert originally made the artwork to show the solidarity of "old" York with New York and its firefighters after the events of September 11.
The window was displayed in York Minster to mark the one-year anniversary of the terrorists attacks on the World Trade Centre.
But after that Mr Calvert moved to Norway and the stained glass was put into storage.
Now he wants to extend its link with the fire services by giving it to firefighters in the town of Bergen.
He said: "I was looking for a home for it afterwards and found it there in Bergen.
"I had moved there and the firefighters approached me saying they wanted it and I am happy to give it to them."
The window will be displayed in Bergen city hall before eventually taking its place in the new fire station in 18 months' time.
Next to it will be a plaque setting out the purpose of the window.
It will read: "This image is non-political and has no nationality. It could be any man in any country with any flag,
"It was not designed to condemn terrorism, but to condemn the intolerance of man that leads to it."
