York continued their unbeaten run in division one of the Yorkshire League when they beat Selby 86-60 picking up 17 points.

At home, David Stroughair, Graham Brooke, Tex Stevens and Phil Parsons were always in control as they won 20-10.

In the other rink, Michael Bruce, Iain Boyle, Mal Turpin and Graham Instone had a much tougher game.

It was 12-12 after 14 ends before the home side pulled away to win 22-14.

At Selby, Frank Turner, Ted Boyle, Barry Walker and Doug Mitchell scored a five on the tenth end to lead 16-3, an advantage they kept until the 16th end when the score stood at 20-6. Then the home side scored nine shots over the next four ends to give them some respectability.

Paul Mooring, John Emmerson, Dudley Williams and Philip Scott had an awful start as they trailed 13-4 after only six ends.

They came back to win the next four ends to trail by two, then dropped a single but won the next three ends to lead 16-14 after 14 ends.

The home side stepped up a gear to score a four followed by a single to give them the initiative.

However, Mooring's side were not going to lie down and came back by winning four of the last five ends to level at 21-21 with a single on the last.

New Earswick had a good win in division two when beating Redcar 108-58 and collecting 16 points to put their promotion push back on track.

At home, Bob Edwards, Dave Birch, Rob Domville and Stephen Long had a great start leading 18-1 after nine ends, which included a five on the third.

They kept the momentum going to win easily 36-7, losing only four ends in the game.

Ken Harrison, Bill Waldie, Alistair Domville and Dennis Ellis had a far easier game than the final 28-14 scoreline suggested after the visitors' late rally of three followed by a four on the last two ends.

At Redcar, Paul Dawson, Brian Gray, Barry Harrison and John Rowan dropped a six on the sixth end to trail 7-4 but responded well by winning eight of the next ten ends to lead 20-10.

They then posted a five on the 13th end to give them an unbeatable lead en route to a 24-13 conquest.

New Earswick's only losing rink came from Barry Johnson, Mal Beavers, Ralph Tiplady and Dave Kermode, who played well in a tight game.

They led 19-15 with four ends to play but then lost three on the trot dropping nine shots to trail 24-19 going into the last where they got a single.
