COUNCILLOR Charles Hall has been chosen as York's next Lord Mayor.
The announcement was made by Liberal Democrat Leader Steve Galloway at last night's full council meeting.
Coun Hall will take over from the present incumbent, Coun David Horton, after the council elections in May.
The Liberal Democrat councillor was chosen because the Conservative group did not have enough members to nominate a candidate for the Mansion House.
Nominating Coun Hall, Coun Galloway said: "Charles is a very experienced councillor. He is no stranger to this type of responsibility. I am sure he will have an outstanding year of office."
Coun Hall said: "I would like to thank my group for honouring me in this manner. I hope I will be able to maintain the standard of my predecessors at the council."
