PENSIONER Ethel Massey celebrated her 100th birthday in style today - with a visit from the Lord Mayor of York.
Coun David Horton joined the celebrations at Woolnough House, Tang Hall, York, where Mrs Massey was marking her centenary.
Mrs Massey, who was born in St Martin's Lane in 1903 and is one of seven children, was also joined by 35 other residents at the centre for a special party.
The former keen dancer, who was married to her childhood sweetheart, Jack, for 40 years, said the key to a long and happy life was to "look after yourself and look out for others".
Coun Horton, who first met Mrs Massey before Christmas, said he was pleased to be able to congratulate her in person.
He added: "I know how much she is looking forward to her big day and to celebrating her centenary with friends and family."
Coun Viv Kind, executive member for social services, said it was a "real honour" to be able to visit Ethel on her birthday.
She said: "She is clearly a very special lady and maintains a real zest for life."
