A FORMER Pocklington School pupil who is now an officer in the Green Howards, has been awarded an MBE.
Lieutenant Colonel David Rose, the fourth military man from the school to be given this honour in recent years, is currently serving in the Congo.
He left Pocklington in 1978 for the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, and was commissioned into the Green Howards in October, 1979.
He studied Geography at Durham University from 1981 to 1983, then served with the Green Howards and the 10th Gurkhas.
Other Pocklington School old boys to have been made MBEs in the last 20 years include, Major Roger Chapman, who is now Curator of the Green Howards Regimental Museum in Richmond, and Brigadier Andrew Farquhar, formerly based in York as Commanding Officer of 15 (North East) Brigade, and now commanding troops in Bosnia.
Nicholas Clements, headmaster at Pocklington School, said: "We have a long tradition of very close association with the armed forces, and it is very encouraging that so many of our pupils want to serve in this way."
