A YORK sixth-former spent his Christmas holidays on a 192-mile walk to raise more than £400 for charity.
Alex Giron, aged 16, of Harrogate, spent ten days walking from St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay alone.
The Bootham School pupil decided to do the walk in aid of Survival International, which promotes the interests of tribal people around the world.
He said: "I enjoy a challenge and at the same time I wanted to raise money for Survival International. Last summer I did a mountain trek in Ecuador and this year I plan to go to Nepal to the Everest base camp."
Headmaster Ian Small said: "Alex has a real spirit of adventure and has put it to excellent effect in raising over £400 for this worthy charity."
Alex is studying history, classics, business studies and geography at Bootham and plans to read anthropology at university.
