A MAN urinated in the back of a police van after he was turned away from a Selby nightclub, the town's magistrates heard.
Dean Ballance, 31, of Evergreen Way, Brayton, was spotted by police, in Selby Market Place, at 11.45pm on Friday December 20.
Andrew Moore, prosecuting, said that Ballance was complaining after he had been refused entry to Kans nightclub.
He said he wanted to know the name of the doorman, and when the police ignored him he asked an officer, "Are you a man or a mouse?"
He said the defendant then caused problems at the Londesborough Arms and was warned about his behaviour and language.
When he refused to stop swearing, he was put in the back of a police van and taken to York police station.
Mr Moore said that Ballance then headbutted the caged area inside the van, kicked the side of the vehicle, and threatened officers before urinating in the back of the van.
Linda Wood, mitigating, said that Ballance, who admitted being drunk and disorderly, was "thoroughly ashamed" of his actions.
He was given a one-year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £55 court costs.
Presiding magistrate Sheila Bruce said: "It is a sorry tale to be heard in open court. I am sure you are full of remorse."
