ONE of the longest-running musical miscarriages of justice will be righted when the York tenor behind a famous Christmas song is finally credited for his work.
Ask just about anyone who sang the Walking In The Air theme song for the classic animation film, The Snowman, and they'll say it was Aled Jones.
But the real singer was choirboy-turned-opera-tenor Peter Auty, who was born in Richmond, North Yorkshire, and now lives in York.
He was a 13-year-old soprano at St Paul's Cathedral Choir School when he was chosen to sing on the film soundtrack.
But his name was mistakenly left off the credits and the song everyone links to the film is the Aled Jones version.
Where the confusion stems from is unclear, though both Peter and Aled had single versions of Walking In The Air in the top 20 at Christmas 1985.
Now, to mark The Snowman's 20th anniversary, a new introduction has been created which gives Peter his long-awaited credit.
"We never intended to omit Peter's name from the credits, and we thought it was about time to set the record straight," said producer John Coates.
Peter hasn't let the mix-up affect him though. He is now a successful tenor with the Glyndebourne Opera Company, and is currently singing the lead in Carmen.
"It's great to have my name in the film after all these years," he said.
