THE mother of missing York teenager Georgina North, who disappeared almost two weeks ago, says the police search for her has "gone wrong".

But a senior policeman says officers are doing all they can to trace 15-year-old Georgina.

Teresa North, of Bell Farm Avenue, the mother of the missing Huntington School pupil, said she was concerned about the 12-day inquiry.

She said she felt the police were not pulling out all the stops because her daughter had previously been reported missing.

She added: "It just seems that when you ring up the police and speak to them, it is someone different each time, and you are repeating the same information again and again."

Georgina's aunt, Marie Evans, of Dodsworth Avenue, said she was "not entirely happy" with the investigation and thought the police could do more.

She said: "It's a terrible situation. We are just exhausted and want her home."

Georgina's three sisters Leanne, 11, Jessica, 9, and Natalie, 5, have joined family members and friends who have been scouring the city, armed with leaflets and posters, for her. But Sgt John Settle said officers were trying to keep the family up to date and that he appreciated their concern and worry.

He said the situation was "massively different" from when Selby teenager Kayleigh Wadsworth went missing last month, sparking a massive search led by Deputy Chief Constable Peter Walker.

Sgt Settle said information in the Selby case, which saw an incident room set up in Selby police station and police dog handlers brought in to hunt for the missing 13-year-old, was "more sinister".

Speaking about the search for Georgina he said: "I am sure that someone is looking after her and thinks that they are doing the right thing.

"But we need to know that she is well and I ask that these people do get in touch with the police so we can arrange to meet."

Georgina is 5ft 5ins tall and of slim build. She has an olive complexion, brown eyes, very long dark hair and wears a brace on her teeth.

She was wearing a denim jacket and platform boots. Anyone who knows where Georgina is should contact York police on 01904 631321.
