THE parents of Ian Stillman will visit a York school as part of the new citizenship programme.
Manor CE School will have a special day each term dedicated to the new subject, when students will concentrate on a variety of issues.
On the first of the days, taking place next Tuesday (22nd), Year Ten students will be considering human rights issues and will have the opportunity to meet Ian's parents.
Ian, 51, whose parents live in Tadcaster Road, York, and who had a leg amputated after a road accident, is serving a ten-year prison sentence in India for possession of cannabis - a charge he has always denied.
His parents will talk to small groups of children about human rights and the plight of their son.
As part of the day the students will then learn about the importance of fair trade and visit a number of shops in the city.
A group of Year Eight pupils will be taking part in two workshops focusing on African-Caribbean rap poetry and Carnival dance and another group will visit Manchester United's Old Trafford ground.
Year Seven students will be taking part in a five-day course in Northumberland and Year Nine students will visit the Earth Centre in Doncaster.
