York RUFC 'A' were out-muscled 18-12 by their counterparts from Wheatley Hills.

The Doncaster outfit went ahead after three minutes when York failed to deal with an up-and-under kick and the home scrum-half scored unopposed.

For the next 15 minutes York threw everything at Wheatley Hills but they could not score, a beautifully struck penalty by Tom Copeland hitting the top of an upright, bouncing back into play.

However, York did score when Westwood, on the wing, reacted to Morgan's delicate chip through to beat the big and physical defensive line to the touchdown. Copeland slotted over the conversion to put York in front for the first, and last, time.

Copeland yet again hit an upright with a 40-yard penalty attempt.

On the restart, Wheatley were awarded a series of penalties and managed to convert the third.

That triggered Wheatley's best period in which they scored two tries. With time running out, the Clifton Park side redoubled their endeavours and hit their hosts with the kind of form that had brought them over 120 points in the previous three games.

York's man-of-the match Rob Liddle scored a try in the corner, but the visitors ran out of time.
