WE are in discussions for a new park-and-ride in York. May I suggest that we make a park-and-ride facility for the disabled badge holders also.

The disabled badge holders in York have to park in narrow streets like Goodramgate and around Brown's store and the Roman Bath.

They are entitled to do this, of course, but would it not relieve congestion if these cars were able to park in their own park-and-ride facility with a shuttle bus to bring them into town? Perhaps the car park in Hungate behind the Black Swan would suit?

One thing we can depend on is that the number of badge holders will increase as the population becomes older, so action now would seem to be in all our interests.

Another benefit from keeping the streets free of parked cars would be that fire engines and ambulances and waste lorries could negotiate these streets much more easily than they can today.

Would it not also be more pleasant for pedestrians? Look at the much-improved High Petergate during the day, now it is parking free.
