MISSING teenager Georgina North has been spotted alive and well in York, police confirmed today.

Georgina, 15, of Bell Farm Avenue, Bell Farm, has now been away from home for eight days.

But at 3.40pm yesterday she was spotted by a police officer in Byland Avenue, Bell Farm, close to her home.

Sergeant Andy Farrer said today: "By the time the officer had got through traffic the girl had gone, but later we were able to confirm the sighting as Georgina with her father.

"We are still concerned for her welfare and again appeal to Georgina to get in touch with her family or the police."

Meanwhile, police who are trying to trace a missing North Yorkshire man will resume their search tomorrow morning.

Detectives have become increasingly concerned for 45-year-old Ian Turner, from Sherburn, near Malton, who walked out of his home on September 30 following an argument with his partner.

An extensive search of fields and woods around Sherburn yesterday turned up no new leads.

The search could not be continued today due to other policing commitments, but will begin again at 8am tomorrow.

About 25 people, including volunteers from Scarborough and District Search and Rescue Team, are expected to be involved in the search.

Sergeant Colin Phipps, of North Yorkshire Police, said:

"The resumed search will be on a wider scale, stretching across towards the direction of Weaverthorpe."

Mr Turner, who is believed to have been depressed recently, is 6ft 9in tall, of average build, with brown eyes and very short black hair.

He has a chubby face and pale complexion, and has a soft voice. When last seen, he was wearing blue jeans and a sweatshirt, and was possibly carrying a black canvas case.
