YORK City's youngsters will be looking to maintain the club's proud record in the FA Youth Cup tomorrow when they travel to Macclesfield Town in the first round.

In the 1998-99 season, City - featuring the likes of Lee Bullock and Christian Fox - reached the fifth round of the competition when they bowed out to West Ham, led by Joe Cole and Michael Carrick, after a replay.

Two seasons ago, the City teenagers reached the fourth round before losing to Wolves at Molineux 2-1.

City will be without the services of defender Stuart Wise and goalkeeper Mark Hampshire tomorrow as both players are too old for the Under-18 competition.

First year full-back Steven Baynes is struggling to overcome a problem with shin-splints, while second-year midfielder Matthew McCabe has a slight groin strain that is currently undergoing treatment.

With the injury doubts and absentees, head of youth development Paul Stancliffe has called up six players from the club's U16 team for the squad.

Tomorrow's tie, which kicks off at Moss Rose at 12.30pm, will be decided on the day. If the scores are level after 90 minutes, half-an-hour of extra time will be played followed by penalties if necessary.
