YORK City supremo John Batchelor has presented his plans to restructure football to his fellow chairmen.

Batchelor was in attendance at a meeting of Football League chairmen from Division Two and Three clubs when the restructuring of football was up for debate.

Although the City chairman's proposals were not on the agenda for discussion, the Evening Press understands Batchelor did make a five minute presentation to delegates which detailed his blueprint.

Batchelor wants to form a new-look league involving Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers in time for next season.

He has already lined-up a sponsorship deal for the league from American-based battery company Rayovac.

Under his proposals, players would see their wages part-funded by the league and also dependent on gate receipts and the division in which they are playing.

The City chairman, who has put his plans to sue the Football League over their handling of the ITV Digital fiasco on hold, would also like to see more promotion and relegation places up for grabs.

He said: "After making my presentation, I was button-holed by at least seven other chairmen who all like the idea very much.

"The problem is getting the Football League to act quickly enough."

Topping the agenda at Thursday's meeting was the publication of a report by accountancy firm KPMG and commissioned by First Division chairmen.

The report recommends more power is given to Division One clubs and independent chief executives for each division.

John Nagle, spokesman for the Football League, confirmed there had been "a full discussion of pertinent matters at this time" but said no resolutions were passed or made.
