I FEEL 'buoyed-up' by the idea of City of York Council adopting an eco-footprint approach to its decision-making ('Council urged to think green,' September 20).

Although the technique is far from simple, it provides vital information on the environmental and social impacts of different products, materials, services and lifestyle choices. This information is presented in a simple way and can be used to inform anyone making a choice or decision.

If the council's decision-makers take the eco-footprint information into consideration, this will help make York a more positive and fairer player in the world's economy and environment.

Meanwhile, I thank everyone who came to the Local Solutions To Global Problems forum on September 11.

More than 20 local organisations were represented and had a stall or spoke about their local solution. The York local Agenda 21 Citizens' Forum intends to hold this event annually - next year in Parliament Street, provisionally booked for Saturday, September 27, 2003.

Any local groups wishing to have a stall at this should contact me at the address below for more details.
