THIS is what happened when a motorist lost control of his vehicle as he negotiated a roundabout in York.

The black BMW careered from the carriageway and landed on top of the crash barrier on the A64 roundabout at Fulford.

Police and an ambulance crew from York were called to the scene of the accident, which happened just before 2pm yesterday.

Paramedics were concerned that the driver may have suffered airbag injuries, but they stepped down when the driver decided he did not need to go to hospital.

A police spokesman said the driver had lost control of the BMW as he was driving around the roundabout and there had been no other vehicles involved.

He said the motorist was slightly injured, but managed to get himself out of the vehicle by the time crews arrived.
