Bishopthorpe SC's Tony Raymond is the York Unique-Phoenix League Individual champion.

Raymond dominated the final which saw him include a brilliant 19-darter to beat Sean Robinson (Phoenix Inn) 3-0 for the crown.

Raymond's assault on the title began with a semi-final win over Mick Willsden (Shepherd SC), who took the lead with a 21-darter. Both players peppered treble 20 but Raymond levelled with a splendid 19 darts, then went 2-1 ahead, narrowly missing a 14-darter. However, Raymond booked a final place with an excellent 19 darts.

In the other semi-final, two 21-darters from Robinson gave him a 3-1 win over Tap's Jim Wallis, who bowed to Robinson's better finishing.

The final of the pairs competition was an all-Tap and Spile affair, Dean Saxton-Darren Bailey recording a 3-2 win over colleagues Jim Wallis-John Smith. From 2-0 down, Wallis-Smith rallied to level with consistent 701s but good scores took Saxton and Bailey to the title.

The semi-finals saw Wallis-Smith dismiss Paul-Vic Botterill (Shepherd) 3-1, while Saxton-Bailey took out Slipper's Paul Partridge-Tony Noble (180) 3-0.

Tap were again in action in the triples final. Against a strong Slipper side, Tap were coasting after Smith (180 for 17) had put them 3-0 up. Nevertheless, Paul Partridge, Tony Noble and a 20-darter from Steve Reynolds put Slipper back in contention. Quality darts from Saxton put Tap back in front then Bailey sealed the win with a fine 21-darter.

Barry Noble blazed into York John Smith's Men's League matches with 60,140,100,100 then 101 finish for a fabulous 15-darter.

Even so, Dringhouses went down 5-4 to Trafalgar, who had 21 darts from Kelvyn Frankel, good middle-order support by Colin Rowntree and Paul Keers, then Rich Plummer-Ron Simpson sealing the result.

Gary Wensley propped up a Green Tree 'B' 5-4 win at Flag with a fine 20 darts, while Trevor Day backed up his son, Shaun, who gamed in 20, with an excellent 180 for 18 darts as Poacher pipped Cygnet.

Gary Kynman partnered four tons-plus Ray McInally to take the decider.

Eighteen darts from Mark Gamble and 20 by Garry Strider helped Slip to a 5-4 upset result at Sun.

The latter had good winners in Doug Sutcliffe (20) and Chris Thompson (21), but Keith Dodd-Bob Gamble gave Slip the winner.

Swan beat Railway Institute 'A' and are the only team in division two with a 100 per cent record.

Tom Turley-Gary Pinkney put Institute in striking distance of victory, but Swan's Pete McNichol-Graham Quinn levelled and Barry McLaughlin-Ged McMahon tagged on the decider.

Teams should note competition entries must be forwarded this weekend.

Paul Cooper gave division one York Open League champions Bay Horse 'A' a tremendous boost with an electrifying 11 darts. Cooper hit three successive 140s, then checked an 81 finish to give Bay a 3-0 lead after Rich Corner had opened with 180 for 17 darts. Tony Raymond's fine 15 darts and a pairs 180 gave Bishopthorpe a glimmer of hope, but Bay took the remainder, including 20 darts from Andy Lawson.

Volunteer won by the same 8-1 margin, Pete Turnbull-Russ Turpin taking Slipper's point. Paul Botterill's 21-darter was backed by a fine 112 finish for 21 darts from Mark Fratson. Debutant Mick Harris closed in 19.

In division two, Howden beat Pack 7-2, while Gary Richardson hit a maximum as Huntington 'A' recorded a last game win at Reindeer, whose Phil Paylor shone to save the aggregate.

A bull finish from Dave Scaum capped a fine division three performance from Jackdaw against Bay Horse 'B'.
