FIRE Brigade Union (FBU) members in York were today starting to vote on strike action.
Local union chiefs were forecasting a resounding 'yes' vote among members in the ballot, which is being held over a pay dispute.
John Mitchell, FBU branch secretary for North Yorkshire, said: "By the time the ballot process starts we will have been around 100 per cent of the local membership, and the indications so far are that 97 per cent are in favour of industrial action.
"It is the metropolitan brigades that are generally the more militant, so for us to come out so strongly is a fair indication there will be a strong vote in favour of the action."
